its time to rejuvenate with Glycolic

Are you longing for skin that looks and feels refreshed, youthful, and vibrant? Look no further than the glycolic Mesopeels, a skincare treatment that has been gaining popularity for its remarkable benefits in skin recovery. This beauty treatment utilises the power of glycolic acid, a naturally occurring alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) derived from sugarcane, to peel away dead skin cells and reveal a brighter, healthier complexion.

One of the primary advantages of a glycolic Mesopeels is its ability to exfoliate the skin deeply but gently. By removing the outermost layer of dull and damaged skin cells, it not only unclogs pores but also helps in reducing acne and blackheads. Additionally, the peel stimulates collagen production, improving skin elasticity and reducing fine lines and wrinkles over time.

Another remarkable benefit is its effectiveness in fading hyperpigmentation and reducing the appearance of dark spots caused by sun damage or acne scars. This makes glycolic peel facials an excellent choice for achieving a more even skin tone.

Furthermore, glycolic peels are known for their minimal downtime. Unlike some other facial treatments, the recovery period is relatively short, allowing you to return to your daily activities with a rejuvenated complexion. However, it's crucial to follow post-treatment care instructions, including wearing sunscreen to protect the newly revealed skin.

In conclusion, a glycolic peel facial is a versatile and effective solution for skin recovery. Its exfoliating properties, collagen-boosting capabilities, and ability to address various skin concerns make it a go-to treatment for those seeking a revitalised and youthful appearance. Say goodbye to dull, tired skin and hello to the radiant, glowing complexion you deserve with the wonders of glycolic peel facials.

Why invest in Medical/pharmaceutical skincare?

This is a question we are asked on a regular basis. As skincare specialists, the entire team here at Serenity skin and Wellbeing clinic have a vast knowledge of the physiology and structure of the skin and what is needed to keep it healthy and looking good.

We stock 3 premium skincare ranges here in salon: Mesoestetic, Environ and clinicare. These brands all have the following in common:

  • Medical grade

  • Thorough testing for safety and effectiveness

  • 'clean' company policies (they are dedicated to sustainability and reducing the impact on the environment through recycling and reusable packaging)

  • Never tested on animals

  • The best quality ingredients

  • Clinical studies to ensure product effectiveness

  • MOST IMPORTANTLY- penetrates dead skin layers which high streets brands do not

this means that by choosing a premium brand such as this, you can be sure you are getting the best quality. You are not paying for a brand name or celebrity endorsement, you are choosing skin changing products.

An example of these quality ingredients?

Most clients will be aware of hyalauronic acid. This is a very popular ingredient in skincare products for its moisturising abilities; it can hold over 1000 times its own weight in water. It is available in many cheaper brands as well as our own ranges. However, there is a big difference. Hyalauronic acid in premium brands has had its molecules altered in size, meaning it can properly penetrate the skin and work on a deeper level where it is needed. Cheaper products will give a moisturising effect on the skin surface but will not have more than a superficial cosmetic effect.

Prior to converting to our products, we notice that a lot of clients are already using EXPENSIVE skincare. However, the majority of these high street brands charge their value because of brand names and celebrity endorsements rather than results. Often, the top selling point for these products will be the scent, which has no bearing on the effectiveness or skin changes. This is frustrating for us as skincare professionals, as we know this is little more than a marketing tool to sell products that often don't live up to expectations.

By joining our skin plan at Serenity, you will not only get the best quality ingredients in to your skin but a dedicated skin therapist. We are passionate about helping you achieve the best skin possible, and with our knowledge and experience we can help you achieve these results. Stop trend buying and start your bespoke plan today!

Are you making cleansing mistakes?

Cleansing is a heavily underrated part of everyone’s skin routines, why? Because a lot of people focus on just removing the makeup in whatever form, whether it is with a wipe, cleansing or micellar water.

So many people do not think about the fact that it is important to make sure the skin is clean but also without compromising the skin barrier. Do you feel like you can relate?

If not let’s ask another question; after you have cleansed does your skin feel tight and clean? If you experience this sensation, then you skin has not only been stripped of its natural oils, but it also isn’t likely going to be clean.

Mistake one: using a cleanser that isn’t good for your skin.

Unfortunately, a lot of cleansers, micellar waters, foam washes contain stripping ingredients that over time can cause the skin to look dull, breakout and can even create a sensitised skin. Not only will it strip the skin, but these cleansing types can often lead to blackheads as often the skin does not get cleaned correctly by these types of products.

And lets not start the conversation on wipes, if you own wipes, simply throw them away!

Mistake two: Not cleansing twice

I love to use analogies; not double cleansing is like removing wallpaper and then painting straight on top without prepping the wall for fresh paint/wallpaper. Not only does double cleansing make it difficult for your moisturisers to penetrate the skin but not double cleansing will leave lots of bacteria and impurities on your skin.

Your first cleanse: This cleansing stage helps to remove makeup, if you wear lots of makeup, we highly recommend using an oil based cleanser for this clean. Our best seller is our pre cleansing oil.

Your second cleanse: This cleansing stage you would use the recommended cleanser for your skin. This cleansing stage helps to remove impurities and bacteria from the skin, It also helps to provide a deeper cleanse of the pores which is great for anyone suffering with breakout skin or if you suffer with skin congestion. My personal favourite cleanser is our hydra intense cleansing lotion; this cleanser is nourishing, keeps the skin barrier in tact whilst correctly cleansing the skin.

After reading this, if you feel like you need a improved skin routine why not book in for a consultation by clicking here. Purchase both the pre cleansing oil and hydra intense together and quote blog20 to receive 20% off your first purchase! Offer ends August 2023

Suffering with sensitised skin?

Do you experience facial redness and irritation and often wondered why? Well, this can be down to many reasons and we would love to help!

Maybe you’ve had been unwell and on medication, been using products that have overstimulated and not agreed with your skin or maybe been overexposed to the sun without wearing SPF. Often, it can be the things we do at home without realising that triggers a sensitised skin.

Redness can also be a sign of an underlying skin condition like rosacea. This can vary in severity and affects 1 in 10 people, so is super common!

Another reason for flushed flurries and rosiness can be because of a compromised or weakened skin barrier. This can be from several triggers that have sensitised the skin. Things like weather (very common this time of year with the wintery weather and central heating!) Hormonal changes, the menopause can often dilate capillaries, make thread veins appear more prominent and cause very irregular surges of redness! And even stress and internal imbalances can be a trigger, causing flurries and flushing too.

So what can we do to help?
I have worked with many clients over the year to help them achieve a stronger skin. We have an amazing range of medical grade products, especially for anti redness, soothing and nourishing, along with results driven treatments to diffuse redness and calm the skin.

If redness is something you are suffering with, then why not book a skin consultation to have a deeper look at your skin and discuss your causes and triggers? We can then put together a bespoke plan just for you!

If you are suffering with these skin conditions, or unhappy with your skin or would like to improve the health of your skin, then I would love to help! Book a skin consultation with me and we can get started on your new skin journey together!

Winter skin

When winter comes, our skin changes. I want all of our lovely clients to understand what these changes can be, why but also how to tackle these changes to ensure your skin is healthy for the winter months.

Through the winter, it is VITAL to work closely with a skin therapist to ensure you are on the right products to maintain skin health, comfort, hydration and a healthy skin glow. A very common mistake made by lots of people is that products are picked up off a shelf without truly knowing if that product is what you need for your skin!

Buying the wrong products can often lead to skin issues such as irritation, dryness, dehydration and sensitisation.

In cold and wet winter, our skin and body are impacted internally and externally; we experience a dryer skin, sensitised skin, irritated and a dull skin. Not only this, but our immunity is working overtime to fight off colds and viruses, meaning that our body can focus less on skin repair.

The fresh cold winter air has been shown to affect the levels of our 'natural moisturising factors’ and ‘ceramide’ levels. Meaning that our skin is less protected AND feeling more dry and dehydrated.

For anyone experiencing a more irritated and sensitised skin, I highly recommend reduce activities and exfoliants to the skin. We need to focus on skin health and immunity. We work with repairing, calming ingredients within our skin care and facials to give your skin that extra immune boost it needs.

For anyone experiencing dry and dehydrated skin, then you need to work on improving the hydration within your skin. For this, we often work with a mixture of skin supplements, skin care and facials to help your natural moisturising factor work more effectively.

Getting the right advice helps you to achieve results, spend less and achieve skin health more quickly! Working with a skin therapist isn’t a luxury, it is a necessity if you want to achieve healthy skin.

Dehydrated vs Oily Skin

Dehydrated skin is a skin lacking in water, but can and does still produce oil. It over produces an oily substance to compensate for the lack of moisture in the skin, which is the reason why dehydrated skin can be mistaken for oily skin.

How to recognise the difference.

DEHYDRATION

The hydrolipidic film is the barrier that projects skin from the outside. When it is damaged, the skins water content (moisture) escapes leaving skin parched.

Therefore dehydrated skin is likely to have stretched open pores which are grey at the base. This can often be mistaken for blackheads. Dehydrated skin is also lacking in radiance and prone to fine lines and wrinkles.

The film it produces will feel silky to the touch and there may even be congestion along the chin/jaw line where toxins gather due to lack of hydration.

OILY

A true oily skin on the other hand will produce a thick waxy substance to the surface of the skin. There are likely to be true blackheads (proper plugs) and the skin may have a slightly thickened orange peel effect.I

Why Caci treatments are a must try!

Here at Malvern Serenity Caci facials are one of our most popular skin treatments. They are the perfect option for anyone who is looking for a non surgical equivalent of a good face lift! Who doesn't want that?!

As we age things like our collagen and elastin begin to deplete resulting in our skin ageing and our facial muscles losing their lovely plump tone.

At the salon we are very passion about slowing down that process and preventing ageing.

This is where Caci treatments come in!

By using our advanced Caci machine we can send an electrical current into the muscle and target the muscle memory to re-educate it. This essentially is a workout for your face, contracting the muscles to tone, lift and redefine the facial contours.

Who came up with such a genius idea?? Well, the treatment was originally developed at the Caci medical institute in America for treating stroke victims and those with Bell's Palsy. They then saw there was a demand for this kind of treatment in the cosmetic/ aesthetic industry for anti ageing results.

I know what you're thinking.. how long does it last? Well after just one treatment you will feel plumped and lifted but for long term visible results we do recommend doing a course of 10 initial treatments, 2 a week for 5 weeks. A bit like going to the gym.. if you are going to the gym twice a week the results will be far greater than if you only go once in a blue moon. We then advise having monthly maintenance treatments to keep it topped up.

So what are the side effects? None.. apart from becoming a Caci addict!

If you have any other questions about the different Caci treatments we offer please get in touch. I look forward to seeing some of you who want to give it a try soon!

If you have never tried a Caci with us before quote blog10 and receive 10% off your first caci!

Have you always wanted to know what a skin consultation consists of?

What is a skin consultation and why should you book in for one at Malvern Serenity?

Here at Malvern Serenity, we are very passionate about skin health and what factors can affect that. In your skin consultation we will asses your skin, and make a bespoke home care and salon treatment plan to help you achieve your skin goals.

We have our Opatra visia skin scanning machine which allows us to look at the deeper layers of your skin which can't be seen to the eye.

This helps us to identify any imbalances that may be going on within those lower layers.

Things such as, oil and hydration levels, sensitivity, skin metabolism, wrinkle depth, skin texture, superficial pigmentation and discolouration and deeper level pigmentation.

We will also discuss with you how our product ranges and treatments are different to what you can get off the shelf at retail stores and how other factors like diet and lifestyle can contribute to getting that perfect complexion.

We can then put together a plan for you that we can ensure is easy to maintain and fits into your day to day routine.

So it's a really thorough 1 to 1 analysis of your skin!

Not only do you get all of this information included in your initial consultation but from now until March, if you book a Skin consultation you will receive a free 30 minute 'Focus on treatment' chosen by your skin therapist to target your concerns.

I look forward to answering any questions you may have and starting some of your skin journeys with you soon! To book your skin consultation form click the link below

My new found Love for Indian Head Massage

I thought I would come on and write this blog because I want to share with you my new found love for head and face massage. Now like many, my go to massage has ALWAYS been either a full body or back massage. Why? I’m not sure why I suppose its just seen as the generic massage to help with stress and tension. Recently I have been suffering with a lot of headaches, so I thought I would try a head massage for once and WOW, why did I not have this treatment more often?!?!? I remember the first two minutes at the start of my head massage, I went through the weirdest feeling. I could feel the stress from my WHOLE body just releasing itself, I started to feel very floppy and I just entered a state of deep relaxation. I just could not believe how quickly I began to feel like I was floating on thin air. I noticed my shoulders started to relax, my legs started to relax and I could feel the whole benefit on my body not just on my head. It got even better when I started to have the face massage, I just truly didn’t know how much tension I was holding in my face, I do regularly massage at home but sometimes getting a therapist to do it from a different angle and providing pressure point just helps to relieve tension. And if you are a jaw clencher then I would HIGHLY recommend you try this treatment at the salon as it certainly helped to relieve all the tension I had in my jaw. I suppose what I am trying to say is, if you haven’t experienced the 45 minute Indian head massage at Malvern Serenity, you must. If youre feeling tired, drained, sad, stressed, sleep deprived or just simply want some true relaxation then just book in, trust me, you will not regret it!

To share even more love, if you quote blog15 we will give you 15% off one Indian head massage

Why you should start your Medical grade skin care journey today!

Before I start my blog I want to just want you to think about something. You have a problem with your teeth, so you go to the dentist, You have a health issue, so you go to the doctor. You’re having eye sight issues, so you go to a opticians. You have a skin concern, but you don’t get any advice. Why is that? If you have a skin concern you want to improve it is so vital you have a skin expert that can help you achieve the results you want to achieve.

There are so many products out on the market that it can be hard to know what is good, what is suitable for your skin and what should you buy. Not only that but there are so many buzz word ingredients that are thrown out on the market and I know as a consumer this can become overwhelming. What a lot of people don’t know is that there are two main product categories, and THIS is what can impact you as the consumer. Firstly, we have cosmetic, this is what you genuinely tend to see in a shop, where you can just pick up an item without consulting a skincare professional. This bracket of skincare it feels great, smells great and can superficially make your skin feel good. But what does it do for your skin? As we know a cosmetic does not contain many good quality actives and at a scientific level. This is why you are able to pick it up with consulting a skincare professional. A lot of these products are also not in a protected bottle, which means as soon as you open it the oxygen gets to the product and oxidises it. The last thing is that a cosmetic will only treat the top layers of the skin. All in all, a cosmetic does not achieve skin health. Now cosmetic is pretty much found in shops and department stores and the sad thing is that you can actually spend an awful lot on a cosmetic and although you will initially feel like it’s doing something this is only superficial, and it will not create skin change.

Then we have Medical/pharmaceutical. This is what level I work with and these stand out above and beyond to cosmetic because of the research, quality of the ingredients, molecule size and their AMAZING results. These products penetrate into the epidermal layers and because of their active ingredients give you SKIN CHANGE. And who doesn’t want skin change? With medical/pharmaceutical skin care you are investing into not just science, research but good quality active ingredients and this is what we need from skincare to get a skin change. These skin care lines are so good that even just using their cleansers will make a skin change. The good thing is that if you are someone that invests in the higher end of the cosmetic range you actually won’t see much of a price change. For those who are used to buying cheaper cosmetic skin care it is important to understand that you are paying for science, research and active high quality ingredients. With this level of skin care you will not only be getting your amazing result driven product but you will also be getting a skin care expert who will work alongside you to tailor a plan to you to achieve the results you as an individual want to achieve.

So what do I work with? I work with four amazing brands that bring true skin change. Firstly I work with Environ, this is a South African skin care company. Environ works very closely with Vitamin A and we certainly do know that vitamin A is key for true skin health. They work with a truly unique vitamin A step up programme that really does give skin change. My second company is Mesoestetic, this is a Barcelona skin care company. They are renowned for their pigmentation treatment and this brand works more with acids and peptides to really get skin results. The third brand I work with, which I recently brought in is Clinicare, Clinicare is a Swedish skin care company known for their amazing Hyaluronic Acid. Then my last one is one of my favourites, Advanced Nutrition, this is a British skin supplement company. Good quality skin supplements is a MUST to use alongside your medical grade skin care to truly achieve amazing results.

The last point I want to make. How many products do you have in your cupboard that you’ve purchased, tried and not liked because someone suggested it or you saw it online? Did you buy it without knowing the ins and out, speaking to a professional and knowing if its even suitable for your skin? I certainly know that I used to waste money on products that just did absolutely nothing for me. Investing in medical skin care not only will you get results but your cupboards will no longer be full with wasted money.

Starting your medical skin care journey is so easy, contact us through info@malvernserenity.co.uk and book your consultation, in lockdown we are offering virtual consultation and our doors are still open!

I hope you enjoyed my blog on the difference in skincare

What the number on SPF actually means

We always decide which SPF factor we will use compared to the number, and it seems to lower the number the less likely you are to buy it. I completely get it because this is how I used to be until I attended a conference where doctors from around the world spoke about SPF and sun protection and it opened up my eyes to a whole new world.

Now before I continue I just wanted to give you some stats- The two countries which wear SPF 50 are England and Australia- we come from two completely different environments but yet we are the TWO biggest skin cancer countries, I just want you to keep this in mind as I carry on to explain the value of that number attached to SPF.

I also want to explain the different levels that UVB UVA reaches. As you can see in the diagram below UVB is our burning ray. This is our superficial ray which we can see through skin burning and this is only present in the summer (in the UK). UVA is our silent Ageing ray! This ray we cannot see and is present all year round and is present indoors and outdoors. It can come from the sun, through windows (including car windows) through phones, laptops, computers, tv’s. Anything that is emitting a light is emitting UVA. This is the ray that DEPLEATS your Vitamin A and causes cell mutation. Therefore it is so important to protect your skin everyday all year around!

So now I am going to tell you exactly what that number is and it WILL make you feel differently towards SPF. First that number is only talking about the level of protection against UVB. So in England we should be wearing a SPF which protects us from UVA all year round and this is the most damaging ray in terms of ageing and cell mutation as it penetrates into the Dermis layer of the skin.

SPF number value is based on TIME not on PROTECTION. So for example if you can be out in the sun for 10 minutes before your skin begins to burn and you apply an SPF 15 then you are protected 10 x 15 = 150 minutes. Now MOST SPF 15 are purely PHYSICAL Spf’S. What this means is that 95% of the sun is reflected away from your skin and is not absorbed. So this is a SAFE spf for you to use. However It is so important that you are protected from UVA so finding a SPF which contains high antioxidants is a given. This will stop cell mutation by protecting your cells.

As we know it is a given that it is recommended to re apply your SPF at least every 90 minutes, so even at SPF 15 you are protected in that time. When you go above an SPF 15 most of the time these SPF contain chemicals in which causes cell mutation and damage in the deeper layers of the skin. They can also contribute to Prickly Heat and Pigmentation because these chemicals have a huge reaction with the skin in those deeper layers. Now this isn’t all SPF in higher number but it is for MOST. Not only this but SPF does enter the blood within an hour of application and there is no scientific research to show that these chemicals are safe for your body.

So just to summarise:

1.THE SPF number isn’t about the LEVEL of protection it is the LENGTH of time of protection

2. It is important that you reapply every 90 minutes REGARDLESS of the SPF level

3. More and often not any SPF higher then a 15 use chemicals which can react in your skin and cause more skin damage and advance the ageing process

So what do I recommend?

These are my 6 MUST have products that I use for SPF protection, these don’t just protect but they are also great to treat other concerns, or as a makeup!:

RAD.jpg

RAD SPF 15

This Is the product I recommend for use on the body and face (if you don’t wear makeup) This product has the physical SPF of Titanium Dioxide but it also FULL of antioxidants to protect against UVA DAMAGE. This product retails at £19.95.

skin antioxidant .jpg

Antioxidant Supplements

As we know supplements reach the DERMIS of the layer therefore it is SO important to take internal antioxidants to protect your skin from the inside out! These retail at £32 for a two month supply.

pure pressed.jpg

Jane Iredale Pure Pressed Powder

This is my favourite foundation base to use which has SPF protection. This product is approved by the Skin Cancer foundation for a safe way to protect your face from Skin Cancer Damage. Because it has no chemicals or bulking agents this can be used just as foundation by itself which is very rare in a powder! This comes in 22 different shades and retails at £35.

powder me spf.jpg

Powder me SPF

This product comes in a translucent or it does come in colour. This product is amazing to top up but to also apply to the neck and chest! I take this product with myself on holiday to top up my face in the daytime! This product retails at £36.

hand drink .jpg

Hand Drink

Have you ever heard people complain about them getting older because their hands are ageing? Well this is because our hands are out ALL of the time and any hand creams do not use SPF to protect. It is important we protect our hands. This hand cream is so nourishing but also protecting! This retails at £19.95.

Lip drink.jpg

Lip Drink

In the salon we often see clients coming in with sun damaged lips. Again this is because A LOT of lipsticks contain chemicals and no SPF in. This Lip Drink is an amazing Lip Balm that will not only HYDRATE but also Protect. It comes in 5 different colours and a sheer and retails at £15.

If you quote purchase 3 or more of these products and quote SPF15 I will honour a 15% discount.

How to care for your skin on a day to day basis

Untitled design (31).jpg
  • Always wash your face straight after exercise, this takes away any bacteria and sweat from the skin

  • Avoid chemical based makeup,  use makeup which are free from chemicals and bulking agents. this can cause more spots

  • Wash makeup brushes or sponges regularly to ensure there is no bacteria growing on the tools.

  • Avoid touching the face as this can spread bacteria

  • Use SPF from a young age, it does not need to be anymore then factor 15, this helps to prevent future ageing

  • Reducing sugar and diary can help to reduce flare ups of acne.

  • Using chemical based wipes and cleansers can cause flare up of acne, redness to the skin and dry the skin out further.

  • Avoid all wipes at all times on the skin, it may take an extra 2 minutes a night but cleansing the face correctly makes the world of difference!

  • Drinking water helps to flush out toxins from the body and hydrate the skin

  • For many people, their cellphone is something that stays by their side each and every day, accompanying them everywhere they go.

  • This means that your cellphone is also exposed to all of the germs and bacteria, everywhere you go, as well as on every surface that you place it on. Each time you hold your cellphone up to your face, this bacteria ends up getting transferred onto your skin, leading to breakouts and blemishes. Simply clean your cellphone with some antibacterial wipes a couple of times a day!

  • Washing your face is so important, but doing this more than twice a day will only end up stripping your skin of its natural oils.

  • Even if you have oily skin, you do not want to clear all of these natural oils away, as this will only send your oil glands into overdrive, resulting in even more oil being produced.

  • Apply a layer of moisturiser onto your face after washing it, while your skin is still damp. This ensures that the moisturiser will trap in the extra water on your skin, meaning that the only place that it can go is into your skin, hydrating it even further.

  • Stress can be responsible for a number of skin problems, especially if you experience chronic stress.

    • Here are just a few of the ways in which stress impacts your skin:

  • Causes under-eye bags, as a lack of quality sleep leads to fluid building up underneath the eyesThe cortisol hormone that is released into the body when stress is experienced can lead to acne on the face and bodyStress can cause rashes and hivesStress can cause you to make repeated facial expressions, such as a frown, resulting in fine lines and wrinklesStress exacerbates existing skin conditions, such as eczema, rosacea and psoriasis

  • The best way is to tackle the root of the problem, try some stress relievers…

  • Exercise has been proven to lower stress levels

  • Spending time doing something that you love can help to relax you

  • Find a hobby

  • Keep a journal to track your stressors, so that you can then work on eradicating them from your life
