Semi Permenant brows
What Are Semi-Permanent Eyebrows?
Semi-permanent eyebrows are a form of cosmetic tattooing designed to enhance the shape, colour, and fullness of your brows using pigment implanted into the skin. Unlike traditional tattoos, the pigment used in semi-permanent brows is designed to fade gradually over time, giving a soft and natural look. This treatment is ideal for those with sparse, over-plucked, or light eyebrows, or for anyone simply looking to streamline their beauty routine.
How Long Do Semi-Permanent Eyebrows Last?
The longevity of semi-permanent brows varies depending on your skin type, lifestyle, and skincare routine. On average, results can last anywhere between 1 to 3 years. It’s important to remember that semi-permanent brows are not intended to be permanent. The pigment will gradually fade over time, and touch-up sessions are usually required to maintain the desired look.
Clients with oilier skin types may notice that the pigment fades more quickly, requiring more frequent top-ups. Factors such as sun exposure, exfoliating skincare products, and natural skin cell turnover can also influence how long the results last.
Does the Treatment Hurt?
Before the procedure begins, a numbing cream is applied to minimise any discomfort. While most clients find the treatment tolerable, there can be a mild level of discomfort during the process. Many describe the sensation as similar to a light scratching or tingling feeling.
The level of sensitivity can vary depending on the area being treated. For example, the tail end of the eyebrow tends to be more sensitive as the skin in that area is thinner and closer to the temple. However, everyone has a different pain threshold, and the procedure should never feel unbearable.
What Can I Expect After a Semi-Permanent Eyebrow Treatment?
The healing process can vary from person to person, but here are some common things you might experience after the procedure:
Mild tenderness
Pinkness or redness in the treated area
Slight swelling
The treated area may appear darker and more defined initially
Scabbing, typically occurring around days 3–4
Flaking of the scabs between days 5–10
Once the scabs fall off, the brows may appear lighter, blurred, or greyish temporarily
Full colour and definition will return after the area has completely healed (usually around 4 -6 weeks)
It's important to follow the aftercare instructions provided by your technician to ensure proper healing and the best possible results.
How Long Does the Treatment Take?
The initial appointment typically takes between 2 to 3 hours. This includes a full consultation, brow mapping to determine the ideal shape for your face, colour matching, and the actual application. Follow-up appointments (for touch-ups) usually take around 1 to 1.5 hours.
Who Is Not Suitable for Semi-Permanent Brows?
While the treatment is safe for most people, it may not be suitable for:
Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals
Those with certain skin conditions (e.g. eczema, psoriasis) in the brow area
People with bleeding disorders
Individuals taking blood thinners or certain medications (gp note required)
Anyone undergoing chemotherapy or with a compromised immune system
A patch test and full consultation should always be conducted beforehand to determine suitability.
What Is the Aftercare Like?
Proper aftercare is crucial to the final result. This typically includes:
Avoiding water, sweating, and makeup on the brows for 10-14 days
Applying a healing balm (if advised)
Not picking or scratching the scabs
Avoiding sunbeds, facials, and chemical peels for at least 4 weeks
Can I Choose the Shape and Colour?
Absolutely. During your consultation, your technician will work with you to map out the most flattering brow shape for your facial structure. Pigments are custom-mixed to match or complement your natural brow colour and skin tone. Nothing is done until you approve the design.
Will My Brows Be Very Dark at First?
Yes – the colour will appear darker and more defined for the first few days after the treatment. This is normal and part of the healing process. The pigment will soften and lighten by up to 40–50% as the skin heals over the following weeks.
