What is Lip Blush?
Lip Blush is a form of semi-permanent makeup that involves implanting pigment into the lips to enhance their natural shape, colour, and definition. It can help correct asymmetry, restore colour lost with age, and create the appearance of fuller, more youthful lips—all while maintaining a soft, natural look. This treatment is ideal for those who want a long-lasting tint to their lips without the need for daily lipstick application.
How Long Does Lip Blush Last?
The results of Lip Blush can last anywhere from 2 to 4 years, depending on your skin type, lifestyle, and how well you follow aftercare instructions. Clients with oily skin or those frequently exposed to sun, exfoliating products, or certain medications may notice the pigment fades more quickly. A colour boost or top-up session may be desired every 12–18 months to keep the colour fresh and the shape defined.
Is the Procedure Painful?
The comfort of our clients is our top priority. A topical anaesthetic is applied to the lips prior to the procedure to minimise any discomfort. Most clients describe the sensation as mildly scratchy or ticklish rather than painful. Everyone's pain tolerance is different, but the majority find the treatment very manageable.
What Should I Do Before My Appointment?
To ensure the best results, preparation is essential:
A consultation is required before treatment. This is to make sure you are suitable for the treatment and perform a patch test.
Keep your lips well-hydrated and exfoliated in the days leading up to your appointment. Avoid using Vaseline, as it can actually dry the lips. Instead, use a nourishing lip balm or natural oils.
Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before and after the treatment as it can increase sensitivity and swelling.
Avoid caffeine on the day of treatment
Make sure to eat and stay hydrated before your appointment to help keep you comfortable during the session.
If you regularly wear a favourite shade of lipstick, please bring it with you—we can colour-match as closely as possible.
If you are prone to cold sores, it’s recommended that you consult your GP and take preventative antiviral medication before the treatment, as lip tattooing can trigger outbreaks.
What Can I Expect Immediately After the Treatment?
After the procedure, your lips may appear swollen and slightly tender. The colour will initially look more intense, with a red or pink undertone caused by increased blood flow to the area (erythema). This is completely normal. As the lips heal, the colour will soften and fade by around 50–60%, leaving a more natural and subtle hue. The final healed result will be matte, not glossy.
What Is the Aftercare Like?
Proper aftercare is crucial for achieving optimal results:
Avoid getting the lips wet for at least 5 days post-treatment. Drink through a straw and be cautious when brushing your teeth.
Avoid kissing, spicy foods, and heavy exercise for several days to reduce the risk of infection and irritation.
Apply the aftercare ointment provided as instructed to keep the lips moisturised and aid healing.
Do not pick or peel any scabs or dry skin, as this can affect pigment retention.
Will I Need a Top-Up Appointment?
Yes, a top-up session is essential and is usually scheduled around 4–6 weeks after the initial treatment. This allows time for the pigment to settle and any areas that may have healed unevenly to be perfected. Some clients may require an additional session, especially if their skin is more resistant to pigment or if they wish to intensify the colour further.
